The Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 require businesses to ensure that every electrical item in their office or warehouse is maintained safely, regardless of whether it’s used regularly or not.
The only way to know for sure that your electrical equipment is safe, free from damage and performing at its best is to have it tested. We offer regular comprehensive PAT testing services for all manner of companies in Essex and Suffolk, including offices, shops, schools, hospitals and other public sector premises.
Octopus Cabling has over 10 years’ experience in carrying out PAT tests in a range of IT environments. You can trust us to carry out comprehensive checks on all appliances, sockets and wiring configurations in your premises, then let you know if any of your equipment needs to be repaired or changed because it’s no longer fit for purpose.
Why is PAT testing important?
If you have not implemented a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) regime for all your electrical equipment, you’re placing your company, your staff and your visitors at risk – and you could be breaking the law.
If an accident occurs at your premises and you cannot prove that your electrical products have been tested to industry standards in accordance with the latest health and safety regulations, it’s likely that HSE will prosecute you, which means you could receive a heavy fine. Company directors can now be held personally responsible for unsafe electrical appliances, so if you’re the decision-maker, you need to stay on top of your safety obligations. You may also be invalidating your building, employers’ or public liability insurance policies if you fail to arrange regular PAT tests that prove your goods are in suitable working order.
If it’s been two years or more since your last PAT test, book a visit ASAP to make sure you’re not placing yourself and your teams in unnecessary danger.
